To Fix OR Buy New ?
Consider : From the Viewpoint of The Earth's Sustainability

Technology is advancing and is here to stay.  Reliance on personal devices increase and is crucial  for information  retrieval and storage, critical for both personal and career related usage. We know that manufactures deliberately design products to become obsolete, as a way of boosting sales. So what does this disposable technology mean to the Earth's sustainability and environment?

Facts

  • When you buy a new mobile phone, specifically the mining of the rare materials required inside of it - represents 85% to 95% of the device's total CO2 emissions for 2 years.  This means buying a new cell phone takes as much energy as recharging and operating an existing smartphone for an entire decade.
  • Much like buying a used gasoline-fueled car is actually better for the environment than purchasing a new Prius or Tesla, keeping your old phone is greener than upgrading to any new one.
  • Calculations from the compositional make up of a smart phone indicate that producing one 1Phone (129g), requires 34kg of mined ore, 100 litres of water and 20.5g of cyanide (required to extract precious metal from the mined ore). This does not take into consideration the use of fossil fuels and electricity required to process the ore.
  • Stats for 2019 have 1.52 billion cellphones sold worldwide during the year, and forecast this number to increase in the years to come. (Calculating the impact on the earth to mine the precious metals required for 1.52 billion phones is staggering,  a lot of zeros, and a ridiculous impact on the Earth)
  • The modern cell phone take a lot of energy to mine, refine, grow and create materials to produce a phone. The energy required is estimated to be roughly  1 gigajoule   (roughly 278 kilowatt hours or 73 times the energy used to charge the phone for a year).

The Most Sustainable Mobile Phone is the One You Already Own!

"Absolutely love Ken from MobilTech and highly recommend you use them! The day I was leaving for holidays I dropped my iPhone plus and smashed my screen. I called Ken, after telling him I was leaving town in a few hours he was quick to fit me in. My new phone screen is beautiful and works great!"
